As this post is being written, thousands of homes in Ventura and Los Angeles are at risk of burning. The cost to rebuild in these areas could total up to $27.7 billion. Now, there are fires in Santa Barbara County and it doesn’t look like it is calming down anytime soon.

If you or someone you know has been affected by the Thomas fire in Ventura, LA, or Santa Barbara, here is what you need to do in order to start rebuilding your life:

  1. Reach out to your insurance company as they may be able to help you out with a hotel depending on your coverage.
  2. Ask your credit card company if they can reimburse you for the purchases you have made in the last 3-6 months.
  3. Call your local chain retail stores and find out if they are donating items to fire victims in California.

If you are a California resident and want to help out fire victims, here is a list of non-profit organizations that are lending a hand:

  1. Thomas Fire Fund

This is an organization made up of The United Way of Ventura County, American Red Cross of Ventura County and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services. To donate, please text UWVC to 41444, visit the United Way of Ventura County website, or call 805-485-6288.

  1. Red Cross

If you want to be more hands on with the relief effort, the Red Cross is asking for volunteers on their website. You can also donate at redcrossla.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.

  1. Salvation Army Ventura Corps

You can find the Salvation Army Ventura Corps at the Ventura County Fairgrounds where you can send food and water to fire victims. For cash donations, call 1-800-SAL-ARMY or visit the organization’s website.
